Ron Wolfson writes and speaks a lot about the importance of welcoming and how it is everyone's responsibility.

I think this relationship building is the same idea taken to the next step. After welcome, there has to be more. Much more. And getting our members involved with one another does not require more financial resources.

Still a pretty big problem, but if we commit to solving it we can do it. Godin talks about the "resistance" or the vestigal "lizard brain" which works like mad to get us to give in to our anxieties and admit defeat before we get started (or abort our successes in advance to prevent us from dealing with the work of maintaining that success).

The only thing we can do is refuse it any attention and just do it.Ira J. I look forward to hearing some of your sp...Ira --

I look forward to hearing some of your specific ideas on this. While I think many would agree we need to do more as community professionals, the ultimate challenge is how to do that when adding resources is not in play.

EG, if your synagogue is going to make a point of establishing face time with each member family twice a year to evaluate where each is at -- will that pull from other strapped resources (EG, time spent now on other things)?

That said, what you and the writer call lynchpin, i often think of as the "would anyone notice" question -- if a particular professional, or organization, were no longer around tomoroow, would anyone notice? If the answer is no or not really, that's a pretty big problem....Sid Singernoreply@blogger.com
